Westerly Animal Shelter & Stand Up For Animals

SUFA is pleased to refer you to the Westerly Animal Shelter for pet adoption. A pet is a life long responsibility.  The Shelter has a selection of animals available for adoption.  These animals have already been abandoned or given up to us.  It is the Shelter’s responsibility to ensure that the new homes found for them will be for the rest of their lives and that they will be cared for and loved. Click below to view the animals currently available for adoption at the Westerly Animal Shelter or call the shelter manager at 401-584-7941 for more details. Please note that the Westerly Animal Shelter and SUFA share the same facility, and our hours are generally the same as theirs.

Pets of the Month

Introducing our December Pets of the Month, Lilly  and Chunky Cheeks!

Lilly is a black 5 year old Domestic Long Hair. She is spayed and all up to date on shots. Lilly has come a long way since she was surrendered to us on July 18, 2018.  She was very fearful and was cage aggressive but now she wanders with the other cats in our sanctuary patiently awaiting for a family to call her own. Lilly is an “on her own terms” cat, but will let you pet her as long as you go slow and let her sniff you first. Once she trusts you she will come prancing over for a tap on the head or a stroke on her back. Lilly may take some time to come around, but she is worth it in the long run especially taking into consideration what she has already gone through.

Chunky Cheeks is a 2 year old Tiger Tabby Domestic Short Hair. He is neutered and all up to date on shots. Chunky Cheeks came to us as a surrender on July 10, 2018 and was very scared and confused as to why he was confined to a cage. He would let us know that he wasn’t happy for a while but once we showed him that it was going to be ok he started to come around. In October he was adopted out, however, was returned due to the fact he is a dominant cat that doesn’t like other cats, which was unknown to us at the time of adoption. Chunky Cheeks is a sweetheart that just needs a little patience and needs to know that you trust him. He will make a great pet in a home without another cat, but overall will be a faithful companion.
