Education

Stand Up for Animals has once again partnered with Humane Education Specialist, Jane Greco Deming, to bring valuable programming to the students in the Westerly/Pawcatuck area. Jane brings 40 years of experience in the field and is nationally respected as a talented and skilled educator. Her various program topics are in demand all around the state.

Stand Up for Animals will provide, at no charge, up to 35 presentations to groups in the South County area. Whether you have a classroom, library, scout troop or after school project, we will be happy to bring these programs to you.  In 2018, we educated over 720 future pet owners at the elementary and middle school level on responsible pet ownership.  We are proud to say that in 2019, we will have educated over 1,300 future pet owners.  Towns where programs are held include Stonington CT, North Stonington CT, Richmond RI, Charlestown RI, Hopkinton RI, Westerly RI and New Shoreham. (These Towns include the villages of Ashaway, Hope Valley, Wood River Junction, Bradford, Pawcatuck, CT & the Mystic side of Stonington.)

Keeping kids safe and having pets that are loved and responsibly cared for is the goal of this special partnership.
Programs include: Playing it Safe with Dogs, a dog bite prevention program that is specially designed for young learners and never says “Bite!, Pet Responsibility!, How to Pick a Pet, Inside Animal Sheltering, Responsibility in a Bag for Girl Scouts & More… Each program is specifically designed to meet the needs of school aged children and all are filled with valuable character education messages. Some programs are accompanied by an animal guest and all participants receive quality take home activity, resource and information pages.  Please visit her site to gather more information and email debturrisi@standupforanimals.org to book a program.
