Pet Adoption

Pet Adoptions ~ “When you look into the eyes of an animal you’ve rescued, you can’t help but fall in love.” — Paul Shaffer

SUFA is pleased to refer you to the Westerly Animal Shelter, Hopkinton Animal Shelter, Stonington Animal Shelter, North Stonington Animal Shelter, Bed and Biscuit Inn Adoptable Dogs, and Wings of Freedom for pet adoptions.  Please remember, a pet is a life long responsibility and many of these animals have already been abandoned.  It’s also important to allow for “decompression when bringing home a new pet”.  Please read this article from American Kennel Club for tips on what to do and how to recognize signs of stress.

Our Featured Pets are also available for adoption.

~ Featured Pet of the Month ~

Freckles in a 1-year-old, 20 lbs, female Cocker Spaniel-Heeler mix. She grew up in a barn so she is a little scared but is making great improvement in her foster home. She is dog and cat-friendly and a great size to travel with, sturdy enough to be a great hiking partner, and sweet enough to be your cuddle buddy

Freckles is a bit shy but, once she warms up she will be your shadow. She is doing pretty good on leash but she prefers to follow the other dogs out to a yard to play and do her business. A fenced yard would be ideal.

She will accept a crate but once she bonds with you she wants to be with you. Poor baby; has been in a cage most of her life at a puppy mill. Left uncrated she isn’t destructive, and will chill with her dog buddy.

Freckles just needs a family to spend time with her and build up her trust and confidence. Do you have a great dog looking for a buddy and a fenced-in area? Are you up to loving this girl until she finds her confidence and teaching her about the world around her? Click APPLY TO ADOPT.
