Lola's Story

Lola’s owners reached out after incurring extensive veterinary bills.  Lola was initially diagnosed with pneumonia in August while in MSCPA Angell’s care after her owners had surrendered her. Lola had an extensive hospitalization that time and once the pneumonia had resolved (to their knowledge) she was transferred back to the shelter and adopted in September by us. Lola has idiopathic thrombocytopenia requiring her to take multiple immunodepressants in order to keep her platelet level within normal limits or close to. Lola had a recurrence of the initial pneumonia just a few weeks after adoption, and she was admitted to the ICU at Angell for two nights. Before even finishing the two-week course of antibiotics, the pneumonia flared up again resulting in her being readmitted for an additional three night stay. Both hospitalizations have been complicated by the use of immunosuppressant drugs, and these drugs have been changed/increased/stopped, etc. likely preventing the pneumonia from ever fully resolving.

SUFA was able to support Lola’s owners with an emergency medical grant to cover a portion of the costs of care that were incurred.
